01 Should the thesis topic be related to glocal conflict management?

Yes it is.
Many students tend to find it difficult to write a thesis on the topic of glocal conflict, which is a combination of globality and locality in social, political, and economic aspects. 
As a conflict, it refers to factors that cause domestic problems that are affected by global phenomena and current issues. Simply saying, any topic that students are interested in will be related to glocal conflict.


02 Can I apply while on leave of absence?

No, it is not possible to apply during a leave of absence.


03 What are the benefits for fellows?

All benefits for participants and fellowship except providing a textbook or statistical software.

● Fellowship (6 months) - master's student

● Fellowship (1 year) - Ph.D student


04 What is glocal conflict?

Glocal conflict is a conflict that combines globality and locality in social, political, and economic aspects. It refers to the factors that cause domestic problems that are affected by global phenomena and current issues. Social problems are also caused by the internal social structure that a country faces but can be intensified by external shocks such as the global financial crisis. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the impact on society through analysis of internal and external environments and current and seek solutions.


05 What kind of activities do participants and fellows engage in?

As part of the mandatory requirements of the BK21 program, students must:

  • Complete the designated course, Introduction to Graduate Studies (GRA511-00).

  • Actively participate in seminars, special lectures, and surveys organized by the program.

  • Fulfill academic requirements according to their degree level:

    • MA students must complete at least five courses related to Glocal Conflict Management.

    • Ph.D. students must complete at least ten such courses and follow the thesis track.

    • Ph.D. students are additionally required to publish at least one paper in KCI, SSCI, or SCOPUS-indexed journals as the first or corresponding author.

  • Students admitted in or after Spring 2023 must also submit an internship or activity report as part of their graduation requirements.


06 What are the eligibilities requirements to apply for participants and fellows?

Qualifications for participants and fellows are as follows.

● Qualifications for participants
  - Full-time GSIS graduate students (students who have not completed 4 semesters of a master's degree or 8 semesters of a doctorate as of the enrollment semester)

● Qualifications for fellows
  - Any participants can apply


07 What are the benefits for participants?

Participants will receive the following benefits.

●Support for domestic and overseas academic conference participation fees and expenses
●Support short-term (about two weeks) field trip expenses
●Support research activities
  - Support publication of academic articles in a refereed-journal
  - Provide incentives for publication of academic articles in a refereed-journal
  - Hold colloquiums and special lectures by experts
●More opportunities to apply to competition for the participants
●Provide a textbook or statistical analysis software (e.g. STATA) within a range of price


08 When should I submit the Certificate of National Health Insurance Qualification?

Please issue the certificate on the last day of participation each semester (August 31 / February 28) and submit it via email. 

This is to confirm employment status during the participation period. If you miss the deadline, please submit a delay report along with the certificate.

09 Do D-2 visa holders need to submit the health insurance certificate?

No. Since D-2 visa holders are international students, they are not required to submit the certificate or the 4 major insurance record.

10 Where and how can I obtain the health insurance documents?

The 4-major insurance history can be downloaded from the Social Insurance Information Center (https://www.4insure.or.kr), and the national health insurance certificate can be downloaded from the NHIS (https://www.nhis.or.kr).
